    Regarding point #4, you’re right that there are some “softer” grading labs. I don’t think that means you should just trust your eyes though. It’s important to have a grading certificate from a reputable, reliable lab. This will help inform you in one of the bigger, and more expensive, decisions you’ve probably ever made. The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has the best reputation in the industry. They developed the 4 C’s in the first place, plus they are not affiliated with any jeweler or store, so their reports are unbiased. Their grading reports are known for their accuracy and their grading tends to be the strictest of all labs. I definitely would not risk buying a diamond that was not GIA-certified.
